Family Law
Matt represents clients on domestic relations matters, including divorce, child custody and support, and equitable distribution. Matt works with clients to find the most sensible, efficient, and cost-effective solutions, whether that means working collaboratively with the opposing party or, if the situation calls for it, litigating in court. Either way, Matt crafts solutions that carefully account for the unique needs and circumstances of each individual client.
Litigation
Matt has extensive experience pursuing and defending claims on behalf of financial institutions, as well as with contractual disputes and related claims for clients ranging from individuals and small businesses to large, multinational corporations. Matt is also a former law clerk to Judge Louis A. Bledsoe III, Chief Judge of the North Carolina Business Court.
Appeals
Matt also represents clients before the federal and state appellate courts. He has presented arguments before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. His extensive appellate experience includes overturning one of the largest North Carolina jury trial verdicts of 2015 and upholding the dismissal of a purported class action brought against a large financial institution. Matt also formerly served as a law clerk to Judges Robert N. Hunter, Jr., Cressie H. Thigpen, and Chris Dillon, all of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
